An unashamedly girly post!

October 2nd was sportscotland’s Active Girls day – an initiative supported by the government aiming *‘to increase girls and young women’s participation in PE, sport and physical activity’. So, we figured we’d jump on the band wagon and celebrate our girls and hopefully, in doing so, encourage more courageous women to follow their feet into the outdoors!

As you may have figured out by now – there aren’t too many girls on our trainee instructor course this year, in fact since 2010 there have only been 6 female students compared to 41 boys!! That’s almost 7 times as many boys than girls! Why? Well, you’ll be glad to know I’m not going to go into an in depth discussion on the sociological and philosophical reasons behind why there aren’t more female outdoor instructors, but what I will do is tell you that we really hope those figures change in the future.

All that was really just a very long introduction to a not very big topic ... Katie and Claire (and all the previous female students – and all female outdoor instructors everywhere – and basically anyone in need of a little girl power!) we think you’re pretty amazing! You are strong and brave and an inspiration to way more people than you probably know. You always try your best and always give everything your full effort and we think that, that is awesome!

It's no secret that our Trainee Instructor Programme is a Christian course and so here is a little biblical inspiration for you ladies out there ... “She is clothed with strength and dignity and she laughs without fear of the future. When she speaks her words are wise and she gives instructions with kindness.” – Proverbs 31:25-26.

And boys ... we love you too! We wouldn’t change you for the world, you bring so much joy, courage and strength to the course that we would be at a loss without – please don’t believe for a second that we don’t think you’re as great as the girls, but everyone needs a little bit of girl power every now and again!
