Hello, me again! Thanks for humouring me last week and putting up with my post about girl power – you’ll be glad to know that this week is much less biased.

This past week we haven’t really seen much of the students around the centre as they spent the majority of their time up in the hills preparing for, and taking part in, their Mountain Leader Award training. Now, I haven’t done the maths on this one, but I think it’s pretty safe to say that between them the students have probably walked enough miles to get them a fair chunk of the way down to the South Coast of England since they started the TI course last month, but I’m more than happy to report that they all still seem to be loving it! Whether participating in the training or out on expedition, the students, as always, worked really hard this week and put a lot of effort into what they were doing. In a packed programme the ML training group had sessions both out on the hill and in the classroom, learning a lot about mountain safety, map reading, weather and plants among other things. But luckily, they did find the time to come up with some exciting, if a little cringe worthy (sorry boys!) dance moves based on their new body belaying skills!

This week also saw our students attending some local celebrations, from a big Canadian Thanksgiving dinner hosted at the centre where we were joined by our friends from the local church and community, to attending a diamond wedding anniversary ceilidh at the village hall, with a real ceilidh band and almost 100 people! It has been such a great week with lots of chances for the students to get to know some new faces and feel at home here in what is a pretty remote, but very awesome Highland community.

The students and their instructors are all away at our Nethybridge centre this week so I’ll fill you in next time on their escapades, but safe to say, we miss them a lot here and can’t wait for them to come home!
